"As an abstract landscape painter, the thought of a little chaos, with a dash of anarchy, makes me smile in anticipation. Some spark is stirring my emotions and a painting is coming. I want to work with the essence of landscape rather than depicting it. Inspiration is never far away, mist, storms, light through rain, dawn or dusk.
Lines often appear in my paintings, connecting me to the energy in my surroundings. Most of my working life was spent in optics a different meaning of vision, but through that I began to be intrigued by perception.
I work in oils and have a love of this medium, touching it, smelling it, pushing it around.
Dietmar and I are enjoying the challenge of setting up this exhibition, showing different mediums and our work from wide ranging moods. This creates an energy from such opposites.
We hope you can visit and enjoy, not forgetting the two parties, at either end of the experience."
Trish

" The world around us is an endless source of inspiration. Wherever I am, I see subjects for paintings and often I instantly feel the desire to paint. Those usually turn out as the best paintings.
Throughout my career as a designer I had to visualise my ideas and designs as realistically as possible, in order to communicate exactly what I had in mind. Now, as an artist, I am looking for something different.
I believe a painting must not just simply reflect reality and be more than just nice to look at. A painting should be captivating, puzzling and surprising. Only if it leaves enough room for one's imagination it will stay interesting for a long time.
Watercolour is a great tool to create such paintings my favourite medium to work with. I am careful to not interfere with what water and pigments are doing.
To balance off Trish's works on linen and canvas, I decided to also exhibit some of my acrylic paintings.
The more I paint, the more it becomes clear to me that spontaneity, a certain amount of improvisation and chaos are essential to achieving the results I have in mind.
As an artist I feel I am on a journey. Naturally my latest paintings look different to those I painted a few years ago and my aim is that, before long some of these paintings too look like
milestones on my journey to an as yet unknown destination.
Thank you very much for your interest! Trish and I hope you enjoy this, our exhibition."
