About the event
‘Would give zero stars if I could’ is Lorena Levi’s debut solo show whereby her methods of research and practice in painting has culminated in a ten piece exhibition.
Levi paints narrative scenes based off trip advisor reviews found online. She was interested in delving deeper into one of the most popular search topics: restaurant reviews. The initial reason for reviews is obvious, however with trip advisor reviews showing a more detailed and scathing side of personal opinion, they’ve transformed into a form of internet entertainment.
Levi has used the internet as a starting point for painting research since her last year at the University of Edinburgh and has been interested in creating dynamic scenes based off stories she finds online. The paintings are a story that the viewer has to unravel and pick apart themselves.
Interpersonal relations and psychology are strong themes in Levi’s work but sometimes an injection of humour and absurdity that can make the work appear as a film still or odd moment in time captured in a photograph.
