Night Walk

This series of works is a project that explores a vision of Glasgow at night, depicted mostly in charcoal, but also with some printmaking. 

While the city sleeps, a solitary figure wanders through quiet streets, reflecting, thinking and observing. A few windows are still lit, slow clouds move across the dark sky and street lights create intricate patterns of shadow across rain-drenched pavements. The colour is drained from the world at this time and contrasts are heightened. 

Night Walk is about the silent, self-reflective state of mind I feel when I observe the city asleep; when all the normal busyness is replaced by temporarily still and empty streets.

" Currently, my favourite medium is charcoal because I am drawn to its softness and the different kinds of textures it can produce. The effect is similar to black and white film photography with its natural grain. And the granular quality of charcoal on paper gives something of the texture of the city at night." A.T.
