“Squishing Flies” is,

luke warm water swirling down the drain,

Moodie paints in order to navigate her feelings of homesickness anxiety. She creates melancholic visions of displaced domestic scenes: painted onto sheer shower curtains, her works emanate an enticing ghostly lustre. By contrasting realism with painterly mark making, Moodie is both the creator of and participant in her quiet yet resonant dramas. She strives to trigger a sensation of familiarity and nostalgia in the viewer for her imagined narratives that they have never experienced.

Leah Moodie is a 2021 painting graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art. Brought up in the Orkney Islands, she is now living and working in Glasgow. Moodie is a winner of the Astaire Art Prize and shortlisted for this year’s Jackson’s Art Prize.
