The Wedding Project

" This exhibition of paintings is based on a series of life drawings.
The drawings were done in charcoal on newsprint, some were very rapid sketches, many overprinted one on top of each other whilst trying to achieve a feeling of gesture and movement and energy. I tried to preserve those feelings in the paintings. The exhibition also includes these original drawings .

The impetus behind the work was to produce a piece which would hopefully be selected as a backdrop at my daughters wedding.
The remit was challenging hence the need for multiple works hoping that one of them might fit the requirements of the client:

‘’ One is in a pub,
One is in a green landscape, climbing a mountain or a hike in Arran,
One is a dinner table scene,
One is a close up of two faces with symbolism, maybe,
One is a warm embrace with movement in it or dancing,
One is more private  more relaxed, cosied up on the sofa.
Overall vibe,
Edward Hopper but more jolly,
Bright colours,
White space in between ,
Architecture to frame the spaces,
Lots of greenery and landscape,
Life,
What would be symbolical,
Like a white dove but not that,
Maybe a wee bit surreal or fresco lines that go off the page like Lola Strongbert. ‘’

I have been drawing painting, scraping and searching for many years.

I am inspired by the genius and bravery of so many artists and I hope that some elements of Pebloe, Cadell, Hopper, Hone, Van Gogh, Picasso,  Kyffin-Williams, Bratby are peeking through.
